Over a hundred flights, several cruises, a dozen yacht trips, and numerous camping adventures - here's my curated list of travel buddies that keep me comfortable, organized, and ready for exploration!
*Exercise your own discernment as to whether below recommendations are suitable for you.
All-In-One Bookings
For flight tickets, hotel reservations, airport transfers, and attractions, my go to booking site is Trip.com (they do periodic discounts on the app and sign up to start collecting reward points).
Stay Connected
Standard travel practice - get your eSIM before you fly, set it up in minutes, and enjoy instant data the moment you land—right as the seatbelt sign turns off.
Where to keep them?
Depending on your itinerary and accommodation plans, sometimes you'll need a place to keep your luggage while you go off and do your day - when other options don't work, I use Radical Storage.
Game Changer Underbelly Handles
Makes baggage claim a breeze! Especially when (as of yet) I haven't coincided with anyone, on the same flight, rolling around a lavender purple luggage set. Absolutely fell in love with this sturdy mid-range luggage set by Traveller's Choice. The underbelly handles make it easy to lift in and out of overhead cabins and into the boot of a car.
*Other colours available.
Packing Cubes
I'd be honest. I never liked packing cubes initially. Most times, I could fold and roll so many more clothes without them.
BUT ask me now and I'd say "Okay, yes, use them!" Especially for longer trips, or when you're bouncing between accommodations. Reason they won me over? Dual function sweetie - they can act as portable drawers that make for speedy hotel check-outs.
Mp3 Player
Yes, with bluetooth capability and an earphone jack! Why?
-
Long-Hauls: These babies last a long time, giving you a steady stream of music or podcasts. Best not to drain your phone or portable battery pack, especially if charging ports become unusable (which does happen often).
-
Reliability and Sound Quality: Wired earphones and headphones won't need charging and often provide superior sound quality amidst engine noise.
Versatile Phone Holder
Perfect for both content viewing and filming. It easily folds up to fit in your pocket or bag, making it ideal for travel. Use it on planes, trains, desks, nightstands, cabinets, and more.
What I love most is its ability to clamp and adjust the angle, even when the desk tray is in use during meals.
Travel Adaptors
Can't leave without packing two universal travel adaptors for international trips.
Why two? Electronics can be unpredictable—one adaptor might work while the other doesn’t. A spare means you can still charge your phone, laptop, or camera without stress. It’s a lightweight, low-cost safety net that can save you a lot of stress on the road.
Foldable Charging Station
Use flat or as a phone stand.
For iPhones, Airpods, and Apple Watches - be sure to check the specs for model compatibility.
Portable Charger for iPhone
Rather than fumbling with cables connected to traditional charger packs; this design still gives you the flexibility of accessing your phone as usual - small and compact.
Be sure to check specs for compatibility.
Dual USB to Type-C Drive
As I've mentioned in the story on my homepage - it would be best to have one of these incase of any travel mishaps at customs, hotels, or for whatever reason you need to get your documents or photos to a third-party device (computer or printer).
I love this design as there aren't any easy-to-lose caps or flimsy covers.
7-in-1 USB Hub
The average hub doesn't include HDMI but this one does, which is great for travelling if the provided television at your accommodation doesn't do screencasting - remember to bring your own HDMI cable!
Compatible with Apple OS & Window laptops - check specs for more details.
Compact Travel Umbrella
Protecting you from the drenching rain, the scorching sun... and perhaps as hazing defense against coyotes in Toronto, Chicago, across the Americas?
Satin Pillow Cases
Travel with something personal to add comfort to generic hotel rooms or Airbnbs - especially needed for long-haul trips.
Added bonus - reduces frizzy hair.
Choose a colour other than white, just to ensure they don't blend into the usual white bedding and you won't forget or leave them behind.
Shampoo & Conditioner Bars
I prefer to travel with these as opposed to liquid shampoos or conditioners for multiple reasons:
#1: Better for your hair
#2: Easy to pack & cabin-worthy as it's liquid-free
#3: Lower carbon footprint; less plastic waste; more biodegradable
Bring these depending on your destination and accommodation amenities!
Travel Case for Bar Soaps
Pair this with the above soap sets for easy travel and use.
Shampoo, Conditioner & Body Wash Powders
Alternative to soap bars are these easy-to-use powder formulas. Even lighter to carry than the bar soaps. Simply add water and they're ready to use. The packaging isn't plastic; they're made of bamboo, sugarcane, and wood fiber - lovey!
Gua Sha Massager
Hear me out - so on long-haul flights, swelling and discomfort from cabin pressure and reduced circulation are common. Most people combat this by using compression socks or walking around. I prefer using this handy tool; especially on my legs. It helps with both blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.
Giving yourself a facial massage with it also lessens the "I just got off a flight groggy look", and gives you something to do whilst on it.
Supplements
*Always consult your medical professional and use your own discernment before purchasing.
Electrolytes
We wouldn't want to spoil a trip by blacking-out and fainting from dehydration or a heatstroke.
So for those sunny explorations where you're out and about, replenishing electrolytes are essential. Developed by Dr. Eduardo Dolhun, this formula is also sugar free (without stevia either, win!)
